Fundamentals of Reliability Assessments
Abstract This paper presents some fundamental reliability conccpts and gives an introduction to commonly applied numerical methods for reliability evaluations. These methods are used not just to calculate failure probabilities, but also important sensitivity factors, updated failure probabilities when new information becomes available, and in connection with reliability based optimization. The presentation is concentrated on analysis of a single failure mode, where all uncertainties are described in terms of random variables. The methods can also be applied for system reliability evaluations and reliability evaluations involving random processes.
