Winter conditions are challenging, as they make accessibility and livability harder in many areas in the northern hemisphere. The need to consider these conditions in urban design is important, as healthy lifestyles which include both physical activity and social interaction should carry on in urban areas challenged by harsh winter conditions. This chapter examines aspects and strategies that need to be considered in the design of such cities.
