Construction of Pretensioned Precast Concrete Pavement
The need for fast construction of pavement has compelled agencies throughout the world to look into the application of prestressed precast concrete pavement (PPCP) technology. In this technology, precast pavement panels are prepared in a casting yard and later transported and placed on the prepared base at the required site. This technology not only provides fast construction but also provides a higher quality of pavement. In this paper, an application of PPCP has been described. A simple method for the design of PPCP has been proposed. Based upon this design, a 24 m road length has been implemented. The panels are provided with top dowel slot load transfer mechanism. The behaviour of the panel has been studied and is still under observation.
