A Review on Comparative Study of Stabilization of Black Cotton Soil by Different Chemical Stabilizers
Black cotton soil is fundamentally adaptable to determine the cubic changes due to moisture content. The cohesive soils have the expansive and shrunk nature. The settlement of the structures is occurred due to poor bearing capacity of soil. The expansive soils or black cotton soils are treated by grouting and stabilization methods. The admixtures, waste materials, and chemicals are used to treat the soil and improve the mechanical properties of soil. As per the requirement, various methods are introduced to stabilize the soil. Chemical stabilization is one of them. In this review article, the comparative study of performance evaluation of soil using chemical stabilizer is summarized. A summary is composed on the investigation of various mechanical properties, namely Atterberg’s limit, standard proctor test, and California Bearing Ratio test. Furthermore, the effect of chemical on the mechanical properties of the soil was evaluated, and it was found that the swelling properties was controlled, and the bearing capacity of soil was increased for expansive soils by adding the minimum quantity of chemical admixture. The minimum quantity of chemical stabilizer makes any civil engineering project economically.
