It outlines the initial defining characteristics identified from research in terrestrial ICEs (Isolated, Confined and Extreme Environments), traces the evolution of concern with place (location characteristics) to habitation space (built environments) and summarizes the expansion of focus from individual living spaces to those encompassing whole communities that are driven by the demands of the extraterrestrial environment.
