New Binders Using Natural Bitumen Selenizza
Abstract The purpose of this paper is to highlight the benefits of using natural bitumen as part of the emerging environmental sustainability innovations and trends in asphalt mixture design. An overview of a recent research work focusing for the first time on the use of vegetable oils and natural bitumen to produce a new type of binder for asphalt mixes is followed by a brief description of the experimental investigation of a new Job Mix Formula, aiming to evaluate the potential use of 100% RAP and a rejuvenated asphalt binder, based on waste vegetable oil and natural bitumen.
