Free vibrations of arches with general boundary condition
The general boundary condition of free vibrations of arches consists of translational and rotational springs. In this paper, the equations of general boundary condition of arch were derived, while the ordinary differential equations governing free vibrations of arches are adopted from literature. The parabola, as the arch's curvilinear shape, was considered in numerical examples. The governing equations were solved by numerical methods in calculating both the natural frequencies and mode shapes. For integrating the differential equations and for calculating the natural frequencies, the Runge-Kutta and Determinant Search methods were used. The numerical results were compared to those obtained from the SAP 2000 for validation. With regard to numerical results, the relationships between frequency parameters and various arch parameters were presented in the forms of tables and figures. Some typical mode shapes were also presented.
