Ready Mix Concrete Truck Dispatching Optimization on a Mobile Application
Dispatching ready-mix concrete (RMC) trucks at batch plants still follow the traditional method in which a dispatcher manages and monitors RMC trucks via walkie-talkie and telephone. This method is quite time-consuming, can cause mistakes and puts pressure on the dispatcher when receiving and handling a large number of phone calls a day. Therefore, this paper focuses on developing an application on mobile devices that integrates metaheuristic swarm intelligence algorithm and mobile application programming using Kotlin language and specialized programming software Android Studio. Although many studies have solved RMC truck dispatching problem using swarm intelligence optimization algorithms, none has presented it as a convenient and easily accessible user interface. This smart and friendly application helps managers find the RMC optimal truck dispatching schedule without manual processing. It uses input data about the demand for concrete to be transported, the timeline, the location and the transportation distance, etc., to provide an RMC truck dispatching optimal schedule.
