Presently, the high cost of energy inputs, and realization of increased environmental concerns are the driving forces behind the need for the pulp and paper industry to seek more cost-effective and environmental-friendly alternatives for pollution abatement. This industry currently constitutes one of the largest contributors to air and water pollution.
