Understanding How Stone Column Works and the Different Techniques Used to Improve It
One of the most common techniques of improving the ground condition for foundations, embankments, or any structures that were constructed on soft soil conditions is called Stone Column. Many factors affect the capability of stone columns, which also affects the behavior of stone columns. Different techniques were incorporated to address the limitations of the stone column. Other studies highlighted the comparative performance of regular and enhanced stone columns. However, the stone column is also used to mitigate liquefaction, which happens during an earthquake, but this was not considered in most of the studies in this paper. Thus, further studies on the stone column are needed, especially on the enhanced stone column, which mainly studied only static conditions.
