A Report on Round Table 3: Applications
Abstract Fields of ongoing and potential application of a probabilistic modeling of material are reviewed and discussed. Emphasis is put on the technical problem, the failure of deterministic approaches and the different nature of the uncertainties to be handled. A basic inconvenience is found on the long-term investigative stage required by most of the material behaviour of interest. The use of judgement evaluations during the design followed by monitoring and updating during construction and service of the structural system is suggested.
