A state-of-the-art review paper on the vibration screening techniques using open and in-filled trenches
A state-of-the art review of research is conducted on the vibration screening using different trench barriers. Factors that affect the performance of the trench, design of the trench, and further scope of developments in the field of ground vibration attenuation are major emphasized part of this study. Over six decades, numerous researches have been conducted to understand the vibration screening mechanism in presence of open or in-filled trenches. Different methodology like boundary element method, finite element method, field and model lab experiments have been performed to understand the screening efficiency of trench barriers. Present study summarizes the design recommendation and induces further scope of research to make trench barriers more economical and efficient utilization in the current state of practice. The geometric parameters of the trench, elastic parameters of surrounding soil, constitutive behavior of soil, arrangements of the trenches have been discussed in this study. The current developments on this study like use of ANN model has also been discussed in the later part.
