Study on the Characteristics of Ground Vibrations During Earthquakes Near Focal Zones in Dagestan
The paper analyzes the parameters of ground vibrations under seismic loading observed on the territory of Dagestan. A close correlation was revealed between the duration, amplitude level, and frequency content of vibrations depending on the parameters of a focus and ground conditions at the point of interest. The conducted spectral analysis of the envelopes of body wave tails revealed a 3 to 4 times amplitude increase for medium-density soils as compared to bedrock across the entire spectrum width and an up to 8 to 15 times amplitude increase at resonant frequencies. For soft waterlogged soils, the amplitude was found to increase by 5–6 and 20 times, respectively.
