Aeroelastic Model Tests on a Monument Consisting of Three Swords
Abstract A model monument consisting of renderings of three early viking- period swords has been subjected to tests in a wind tunnel. The type of response under study is the bending of the blades in their most flexible direction. Results in the form of mean and RMS of bending moments are shown for smooth and turbulent flow and for four values of the wind’s angle of incidence in the horizontal plane. Bending moments are also shown in the reduced form of drag coefficients. For the dynamic part of the response the drag coefficients are shown in two versions, i.e. with or without reliance on alongwind aerodynamic damping.
