Structural Health Monitoring System for Al-Hamra Tower in Kuwait City
There is an increase in number of tall buildings in Kuwait for the last 10 years. It is very important to monitor the structural response of these tall buildings and collect ambient loading data and structural response data. Structural health monitoring (SHM) technique was applied for tall buildings in Kuwait through a collaborative project between Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR), Kuwait University, and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA, funded by Kuwait Foundation of Advancement of Sciences (KFAS), Kuwait. In this project, Al-Hamra tower, the tallest tower in Kuwait, was chosen for the study. In the present paper, the procedure for instrumentation design of the Al-Hamra tower is described. Detailed proposed locations and number of sensors in each floor are presented.
