Abstract It is difficult to determine uniformly the safety factor of fendering system against all the type of fenders, however, it is important. Here, discussion is made on allowable load and allowable stress of infra-structures. PIANC Fender Commission issued a report for improving design of fendering systems in 1984. In that report, description on the safety of fendering system is made for two types of fenders. The author will present some supplementary discussion to that report.
