Preserving Traditions in a Smart Village – A Pan-African Perspective
A pan-African perspective on preserving traditions is captured in this chapter to support and emphasize the importance of traditions in the development of smart villages in rural Africa. Examples of traditional practices in countries such as Gabon and Botswana are provided. An overview of some of past kingdoms of Africa is presented to illustrate the evolution of traditional practices. The smart village concept as envisioned and presented in this book is positioned as an affirmation of views and ideas that create real change starting at village level, run by the village, and improved by the village, with consideration of its indigenous knowledge systems and traditions.
