An Analysis of Green Building Certification Systems in Vietnam
Being one of the worst affected countries in the world, Vietnam has established policies and measures to cope with climate change. Promoting the development of green buildings based on sustainable development is considered a useful measure. Green building (GB) is a construction, which is built environmentally friendly. Its operation not only does not adversely affect the surrounding community and nature but also preserves natural resources. Although the number of GBs in Vietnam has increased in recent years, the speed of GB development is slower than that of other countries in ASEAN. According to the statistics, there are 87 certified GBs in Vietnam at the end of 2018. The objective of this study is to give evaluations on 10 GB rating systems currently in regulation in Vietnam. Firstly, 10 GB certification systems are reviewed and evaluated based on expert interview results. Then, the outstanding features of each certification system are analyzed and compared with each other. Next, some typical works are briefly introduced to clarify the applied architectural solutions. Finally, an overall image of GB rating systems in Vietnam is drawn out and, then, their realistic applicational values to promote sustainable development would be re-discussed.
