Abstract The special features of and experience in the operation of power unit transformers and autotransformers are described. The requirements on some parameters of power transformers are considered. An analysis of the rate of failure of power transformers used at thermal and hydraulic power plants is made for determining the components with unsatisfactory reliability and setting specific requirements on the electrical industry.
