Conclusions 1. The characteristics of the action of blasthole crater charges were examined. Elongation of the blasthole charges causes an increase of energy expenditures on ejecting the soil compared with the use of concentrated charges. In connection with limitation of the mass of blasthole charges by the hole sizes, the distance between blasthole charges should be substantially less than between concentrated charges in order to provide interaction of adjacent charges in the row. 2. There exists an optimal combination of the relative (in charge diameters) length of blasthole crater charges and distance between them in the row which is optimal with respect to technical and economic indices of the works, a method of determining which is presented in the article. 3. A substantiated method of calculating reasonable parameters of exploding blasthole crater charges for forming extended excavation in the ground was developed and is recommended.
