5. Conclusions In St. Petersburg, the work on restoration of urban waters is continuing. It is a complex program, which requires a great investment, and findings solutions to new technical and social problems. At the same time, it is recognised that this work needs to be based on sound water resources management principles. In this process, there is a great need for the monitoring of water resources and the monitoring results should be made available to the experts and the public.
