Uplift Capacity Determination for an Under-Reamed Pile in Non-homogeneous Clay
The present study is aimed toward determining the uplift capacity for an under-reamed pile in non-homogeneous clay by adopting the finite element analysis methodology. The study was performed using Optum G2 software, wherein the soil will be assumed to obey Tresca’s failure criterion for clay. The analysis was carried out for single and double under-reamed piles and for the various values of linearly increasing cohesion. The geometry of the pile was selected by following the relevant code. The obtained results indicated that with the use of single and double under-reamed pile the increase in safe load was up to 111 and 147% while the increase in ultimate capacity was up to 191% for a single under-reamed pile and 224% for the double under-reamed pile, respectively.
