Gamification as a Strategy for Teaching Construction Project Management Systems
Currently, the teaching of construction project management in the architectural technologist degree at the University of Alicante follows a theoretical-practical approach. In general, students are initially exposed to trade technologies through traditional theoretical sessions. Subsequently, practical sessions integrate case studies derived from the content covered in the theoretical sessions, wherein students are required to individually plan the work on a construction project. In this regard, the present work focuses on implementing gamification techniques within the lean construction paradigm, to introduce students to emerging management methodologies. This gamification fosters active participation of students during practical sessions while promoting skill development in project management. This approach offers a more collaborative and adaptable planning process compared to the conventional system. Students learn to optimize the utilization of material and human resources in a playful and dynamic manner. Furthermore, it encourages open communication, reflection for process optimization, joint decision-making and acquisition of coordination and conflict management abilities.
