A review of the concrete consolidation by vibration
Abstract This paper reports on the current state of the prime method used for consolidation of concrete, namely the vibration. In addition to a relative completeness, the main contribution of this paper lies in the unified, systematic organization of the presently available but scattered and sometimes contradicting findings on the vibration of concrete. After the brief description of the characteristics of the simple harmonic motion, the most common types of internal and external vibrators are presented along with their technical parameters, as well as the proper selection and application of vibrators. This is followed by the description of the behavior of the fresh concrete under vibration, and theoretical discussion of the mechanism of liquefaction of concrete.
Résumé Faisant suite à un précédent article que l’auteur avait consacré au béton vibré, et qui couvrait l’étude du matériau, cet exposé a pour objet les autres aspects de la consolidation du béton par vibration tels que nous les connaissons actuellement, et porte sur 59 références. La principale contribution que l’on a souhaité apporter à cette étude aussi complète que possible consiste en une présentation unifiée et systématique ainsi qu’en la discussion des résultats disponibles qui sont toutefois dispersés et souvent contradictoires. Après une brève description du fonctionnement d’un vibrateur rotatif, on présente les types les plus courants de vibrateurs: pervibrateur, vibrateur de coffrage, table vibrante, vibrateur de surface. On discute leurs caractéristiques mécaniques aussi bien que leur sélection rationnelle et leurs applications. Vient ensuite une analyse du comportement du béton frais sous vibration, le processus de la consolidation étant considéré en 2 étapes. On donne une explication qualitative de la liquéfaction du béton par vibration. Enfin, on indique clairement les recherches qu’exigera ultérieurement l’élucidation des questions fondamentales de la consolidation par vibration.
