Paramagnetic Scattering from Some Ce And Yb based Valence Fluctuation : Kondo-Lattice Systems
Neutron scattering techniques have been increasingly applied in recent years for the study of rare earth magnetism. In the following we review some of the results obtained for a few anomalous rare earth compounds, mainly those of Ce and Yb at the ends of the rare earth series, which are now generally classified as Kondo-lattice (heavy Fermion) or valence fluctuation (intermediate valence) systems1. While, at present, we do not have a very clear understanding of all the phenomena reflected in these measurements, we percieve certain systematic features which appear significant and may eventually help in our future understanding.
