A Kinetic Module for Modular Structures Based on Rigid Origami
Abstract The increased complexity of geometrical shapes in architecture asks for elaborated fabrication methods, which have to be adapted on a case-to-case basis. Kinetic modular structures can fulfil this task. These structures, by definition, employ a kinetic module, which is a deployable unit composed of hinged rigid bodies. Kinetic modular structures are reusable, adaptable to different forms, easily constructible and, theoretically, they allow the creation of kinematic structures. This paper presents a study to show the potentiality of such an approach, exploiting the properties of rigid origami like the triangular Resch’s tessellation.
