Decision Support to Build in Landslide-Prone Areas
Soil mass movements are potential effects of insufficient soil shear strength (when construction development is to be decided). Landslides regarded as first-time or reactivated soil movements become disasters in relation to significant human and material losses. Landslide prone areas related to urban slopes are identified as such and characterized according to various criteria. The public perception related to construction decisions is first-hand provided by mapping the landslide potential, hazard and risk of each country/county/city zone. The paper presents a comparative analysis between methods to provide decision-making support for the local authorities to build on urban slopes with previous soil mass movements.
