Climate Change, Carbon Emissions and Built Environment
Climate change has become an imminent reality with a rise in global temperatures, changes in rainfall, floods, droughts and intense heat waves. A drastic increase in atmospheric concentrations of water vapours, carbon dioxide, methane and nitro-oxide and other greenhouse gases helps trap heat near the earth’s surface. With increasing emissions, fossil fuel usage, urban growth and growing air-conditioning demand, it is projected that by the year 2100, the urban heat would get ambient summer temperatures, affecting the population’s health and productivity.
