Heritage Building Information Modeling (HBIM) and the Digitization of Underground Archaeological Spaces in Amman
This chapter explores the integration of Heritage Building Information Modeling (HBIM) and digital tools in the sustainable utilization of underground archaeological spaces, focusing on downtown Amman, Jordan. The study examines an archaeological site uncovered beneath the city’s surface, emphasizing its potential inclusion in urban planning and development strategies. Employing qualitative methods such as thick description analysis alongside advanced digital tools like CerTus HBIM, Revit, Twinmotion, and Photoshop, the research proposes innovative solutions for revitalizing historic urban centers. These solutions include designing staircases and pathways for improved accessibility, relocating critical site elements to enhance preservation, and finalizing the water drainage canal project. The recommendations, developed in collaboration with the Greater Amman Municipality and experts from the Jordanian Department of Antiquities, aim to protect cultural heritage while advancing sustainable urban development in densely populated and rapidly evolving areas such as downtown Amman.
