Laser Processing of High Tc Superconductors
Abstract Three most important high-Tc (high critical temperature) oxide superconductor systems are Y-Ba-Cu-O (yttrium-barium cuprates or rare earth-barium cuprates), Bi-(Pb)- Sr-Ca- Cu-O (bismuth-lead-strontium-calcium cuprates), and Tl-Ba-Ca-Cu-O (thallium- barium- calcium cuprates). All of these three systems have complicated crystal structures with copper-oxygen planes, which are believed to be responsible for the superconducting properties of these compounds. Among these cuprates Tl-Ba-Ca-Cu-O system has the highest Tc, about 125 K[1,2], but the potential for industrial application is limited due to severe health problem associated with the toxicity of thallium compounds.
