Modeling of deformational characteristics in unbound granular geomaterials
There are several major practical consequences of the stress-dependent properties of unbound granular geomaterials. Among those are the Poisson’s ratio’s that may change, the compressive stresses that are generated in such materials under load, the stiffe ning and strengthening effect of repeated loading to progressively increase the granular geomaterials resistance to permanent deformation. These effects are illustrated in this paper by a combination of field observations of accelerated loading tests results and their duplication with computations made by stress-dependent finite element analyses, guided by the theory which explains the effects noted above.
