Electronic States in High Tc Oxide Superconductors
Abstract During the last several months the superconducting transition temperature (Tc) has revolutionary been raised up to 90K. The high Tc superconductivity has been realized in the Cu-oxides with perovskite-type structures. Although quite numerous experimental data have been accumulated for these oxide superconductors, it is still far from clear why Tc is exceptionally so high in the Cu-oxides and what is the role of the rare earth and the alkaline earth elements which decorate the Cu-O framework and are not involved in the states near the Fermi level. There have been proposed almost as many theoretical models of these superconductors as theorists, as Mott recently pointed out(1). The models are classified into two categories: one is based on the phonon-mediated attractive force between a pair of electrons and the other invokes non-phonon mechanisms emphasizing the relevance of either spin fluctuations or charge fluctuations arising from the interelectron Coulomb interaction.
