Punching Analyses of Symmetrically Reduced Concrete Slab Quarters
Abstract To investigate the punching shear behavior of large-scale reinforced concrete slabs, a new experimental test set-up is developed at the Ruhr-University Bochum, Germany. Similar to numerical simulations, symmetrical parts of the concrete test specimens are substituted by a modular bearing construction. This symmetric reduction provides entirely new testing ranges for reinforced concrete slabs while preserving the test infrastructure already available. In order to verify the developed experimental set-up, a test series was conducted. It consists of one full-sized slab and two symmetrically reduced slab quarters of similar material and geometry. To assess its quality, the test results of the full-sized slab and the slab quarters are compared. Moreover, simplified computations are used to analyze the structural behavior of the three concrete slabs tested. The test results prove that both types of experiments exhibit almost the same response. The computational results agree well to the measured test data.
