Urban Design Principles as Tools of Urban Area Sustainable Development for Creating Pedestrian Space: The Case of Poltava (Ukraine)
The city is a multifunctional territory where, in addition to the aggravation of environmental problems, there are also problems of an aesthetic nature which are caused by the influence of urbanization processes on the comfort of public spaces. Public spaces on city streets are determined by the sustainable development such areas and have been a tool that improves the quality of life for the population. The central core of any city is a place where a concentration of establishments for various purposes are located within walking distance, but it is also the urban streets intersection that creates a danger to inhabitants. For keeping the balance between transport and pedestrians have been proposed to create pedestrian space that would consider the key criterion of Urban Design such as safety, livability, availability, environmental friendliness, comfort, and efficiency, as well as will be multifunctional territories and will become the center of urban life. These requirements are determined by the trends in the development of highly urbanized space, namely the density of buildings, the cost and value of land in the central core of the city, the formation of requirements for the sustainable development of territories, and the intensification of the social life of society. In article aspects of formation pedestrian space by Poltava city in Ukraine that are based on key criterion of Urban Design have been considered and criteria for the attractiveness of pedestrian spaces are determined.
