Characteristics of Stabilised Compressed Earth Blocks
This chapter deals with strength and durability aspects of stabilised compressed earth blocks (CEBs). Detailed results of optimum soil grading and optimum clay content for the manufacture of stabilised CEB are presented. Two novel methods of assessing the durability of stabilised CEB are introduced. Also, the elastic properties and thermal conductivity of stabilised CEB are discussed. The types of damages in CEB buildings are illustrated and the methods of repair and retrofitting the damaged stabilised CEB buildings are discussed in greater detail.
