Abstract Berthing speed and the eccentricity factor were measured at several deep water oil terminals as items in the investigation of berthing energy of VLCC. Data of berthing speed were obtained at the Keiyo Seaberth, the Kashima Seaberth, Isewan Seaberth and the Nisseki Kiire Seaberth by use of berthing speed meters installed at those berths. For the Keiyo Seaberth, data were obtained in 1971, 1972 and 1978. For the Kashima Seaberth data were obtained in 1972 and 1973. For the Isewan Seaberth and the Nisseki Kiire Seaberth, data were obtained in 1978. Data of eccentricity factors were obtained at the first two seaberths in 1971 and 1972. All of these seaberths are available for more than 200,000dwt oil tankers and the structure of each berth is steel pipe pile dolphin type. Therefore those berths can be regarded as beings of the same kind.
