Macroscopic and Microscopic Mechanical Characteristics of Pervious Concrete
The concrete and asphalt both have low permeability characterizes, and the concrete or asphalt pavement also has poor water permeability and drainage ability. After heavy rainfall, road flooding can occur easily and lead to urban flooding disasters. This research paper examined how the water-to-binder ratio and admixtures affect the compressive strength and water permeability of pervious concrete using the uniaxial compression test. The numerical test of triaxial compression was conducted on the pervious concrete specimen from the microscopic level using the discrete element method on the basis of macroscopic mechanical tests. The macroscopic mechanical test results indicated that the water-to-binder ratio had the most significant impact on the mechanical properties and water permeability of pervious concrete. As the fly ash content increased, the variation in compressive strength of pervious concrete showed a fluctuating trend. The macro and micromechanical behavior and strength characteristics of pervious concrete can be analyzed and simulated using the particle discrete element method. The findings of this study can provide support for the design and construction of permeable pavements on heavily trafficked roads in urban areas.
