Green Zones at TUKE Campus
This paper deals with the creations of green zones at the Technical University in Košice (TUKE) campus and counts on the construction of a retention pond subsidized by rainwater from the reconstructed flat roof with park arrangements and vegetation walls both in the interiors of the entrance areas to the rectorate and on the facade of the adjacent civil protection warehouses. The proposed solutions aim to restore its use at a new, higher level, primarily for the representative purposes of the university and its workplaces with the creation of green vegetation areas as part of raising awareness of climate change. The concept of a green university presented in paper is designed to increase and strengthen the water retention capacity. Retained rainwater can rehydrate agricultural and urbanized landscapes. Rainwater that is currently draining uselessly should seep into the soil as a matter of priority, thus restoring and strengthening groundwater supplies. Recharged aquifers give the vegetation enough moisture to allow evaporation, which pumps heat from the superheated surface to the higher colder layers of the atmosphere.
