Influence of Rebar Anchorage in the Structural Performance of Reinforced Concrete Members
Structural strengthening in existing buildings and the use of Reinforced Concrete (RC) jacketing as an effective method to improve their performance. Concrete jacketing is a structural strengthening technique that involves adding a new layer of concrete to an existing structure, typically to reinforce and improve its load-bearing capacity, durability, and resistance to various forces such as seismic activity, corrosion, or deterioration. The study aims to investigate the influence of rebar anchorage on the strengthening of beams and columns, as well as the impact of anchorage depth and spacing on the RC elements. The Taguchi method is employed to establish the minimum required number of experiments, whereas Taguchi regression analysis is employed to forecast the behavior of beams and columns when rebar anchorage is involved. The research findings suggest that the use of rebar anchorage in concrete jacketing can effectively achieve a monolithic behavior of RC elements, making it a more economical and efficient option for strengthening existing buildings. The study highlights the importance of RC jacketing as a viable solution to correct design errors and deficient concrete production and execution processes in the repair and retrofitting of structures.
