Abstract Embankments such as river dikes as well as road and railway fills have been affected to different extents by earthquakes in the past. Since an earth embankment can be easily repaired, when compared with steel and concrete structures, it is important that the induced deformation is less than the allowable limit so that the damage is quickly restored.
