Reliability Analysis of Offshore Structures
Abstract The need for the extraction of oil and gas from strata lying below the sea bed has provided structural engineers with technical challenges which are perhaps unrivalled in any other industry. The combination of extreme environmental loads, difficulties of geotechnical investigation, extremes of physical size, problems of soil-structure interaction, dynamics, fatigue and corrosion, together with tight schedules for design, construction and installation, present the designer of an offshore structure with many competing demands. Not the least of these is the need to provide a facility which will give a worthwhile economic return on the capital invested.
