Public Transit Network Analysis Using Spatial Approach Case: Bogor Municipality—Indonesia
A straightforward spatial analysis could be a valuable planning tool to assist policy-maker. This study empirically demonstrates that spatial analysis employing a graph theory approach can be used to assess the nature of an urban public transit (PT) network, allowing planners to analyze factors that may impede the provision of a good quality PT system. Bogor Municipality, a rapidly growing residential area, was used as a case study, and the GIS (Geographic Information System) methods were performed to obtain the necessary data for the analysis. The quantitative findings indicate that even though PT network in Bogor Municipality is well-developed and nearly entirely connected, the service was unavailable to all citizens, covering only 74.40% of the built area regardless of its quality. Based on the observation, it is reasonable to hypothesize that the size and design of a residential area have contributed to the problem. In addition to the issue of the settlement’s size, it was found that some formal residences, formed as gated communities (GC), isolate the surrounding area. Furthermore, it was observed that the exclusive design of GC is also detrimental to its resident since it forces them to pass through the gate before reaching any PT access points, resulting in a longer walking distance. Following the sustainable transport planning principles, a discussion of potential initiatives based on observations to enhance PT network’s quality brings the article to a conclusion.
