Cost-Effective Strategies in Bridge Management
Abstract This paper assesses rehabilitation projects in an economic framework. Two techniques are outlined. The first is the present value analysis which compares alternatives at the project level. The second is the incremental benefit/cost ratio analysis which prioritizes the cost-effective rehabilitation alternatives at the project and network levels. Various parameters required for the analysis are discussed. Computer programs utilizing Lotus 1–2–3, Version 2.01, required for the analysis are described. The application of the techniques is illustrated by examples of bridge rehabilitations.
