Abstract It has been generally accepted1 that there must be some lower particle size limit below which superconductivity does not occur. However, the idea has not been adequately tested in the size range which is now possible for the production and study of metal microclusters containing from two to two hundred atoms per cluster2. It is the purpose of this paper to point out that further exploration of the question of the superconductivity of metal clusters deserves consideration, and to suggest some experimental approaches.
