Third Harmonic Injected Nearest Level Control of Nine-Level Grid-Tied PV-CHB Converter
This paper presents the power quality analysis of nine-level three-phase cascaded H-Bridge (CHB) inverter with third harmonic injected nearest level modulation (THI-NLM). The inclusion of THI with NLM provides multiple benefits. Due to the involvement of THI, the magnitude of the fundamental component is increased in CHB output voltage and also enhances the power quality by mitigation of harmonics. The NLM technique provides fundamental switching, less switching losses and good dynamic performance with the less complexity in comparison with popular multi-carrier-based modulation techniques. Modeling of nine-level CHB converter is done with voltage and current equations for understanding the working and operation. THI-NLM controlled multilevel converter feeds the solar power with enhanced efficiency and power regulation is achieved in closed loop by robust DQ control. System is simulated in MATLAB, and its dynamic performance is tested in varying solar photovoltaic environment. Harmonic analysis is conducted for NLM and THI-NLM at various solar irradiances. Obtained results in simulation are tested with real-time simulator OP5700.
