Micromechanical Analysis of the At-Rest Lateral Pressure Coefficient of Granular Materials
Abstract The resistance of the lateral earth pressure of rigid retaining structures is related to a series of important geotechnical problems. This paper reports a micromechanical analysis of the at-rest lateral pressure coefficient K0 of granular materials. The influence of the spring stiffnesses and the fabric anisotropy is micromechanically investigated. It is revealed that the at-rest lateral pressure coefficient increases with the increasing stiffness ratio as well as the increasing fabric anisotropy.
