A Nonlinear Calculation Approach of Long-Term Settlement for Pile Groups in Layered Soft Soils
Abstract The pile settlement in soft soils can sustain for several decades, owing to the creep behavior of soft soils around the pile. This paper put forward a nonlinear method to analyze the long-term settlement of pile groups in layered soft clay soils. This approach uses the load transfer (t-z) model to describe the pile-soil interaction by the Burgers model distributed along the pile shaft and the pile base. The advantage is that it can calculate the long-term settlement of pile groups with rigid or flexible high cap. A program named CTSP (Calculating Time-dependent Settlement of Pile foundation) has been developed to analyze the long-term settlement of two pile groups in layered soft clay soils. Comparisons of the calculations and the measurements were presented to validate the effectiveness and accuracy of the proposed approach.
