Cryostat Suspension System Analysis During Cool-Down and its Validation
Abstract A superconducting-magnet-cryostat has a stainless steel cylindrical bobbin on which the Nb-Ti superconducting coils are wound. The bobbin along with the coil is cooled with liquid helium down to 4.2 K temperature. The bobbin is suspended inside a vacuum chamber with the help of three horizontal and six vertical glass–epoxy support-links. A detail analysis is made to predict the movement of the coil and the support link forces. After cool-down of the coil results of analysis is verified with the experimental data and found good agreement with the analysis. This paper presents the details of analysis as well as how the results are used to formulate the methodology for safe operation of support links and proper alignment of the coil.
