Influence of Multidirectional Principal Stress Axes Rotation Sequences on Deformation of Sand
Abstract Principal stress axes (PSA) rotation tests with different rotation axes are conducted using discrete element modeling to investigate the influence of PSA rotation sequences in various directions on the deformation of sand. Results indicate that the volume strain is dependent on the rotation sequence during the first few cycles of stress rotation, but the ultimate volumetric strain after significant principal stress axes rotation load cycles in all the different directions is independent of the rotation sequence.
