Bond Behavior Between BFRP Bars and Concrete Under Static and Dynamic Loading
The bond strength between concrete and reinforcing bar is critical to hold serviceability and ultimate limit state within an acceptable limit of civil engineering structures. The uncertainty of sudden load is the prime concern on structures as it behaves differently with loading rates. This chapter investigated the bond behavior between BFRP bars and concrete under static, dynamic, and cyclic loadings. Results showed that: (1) the model for the bond stress-slip relationship between BFRP bars and concrete under static loading was proposed considering the ratio of concrete cover depth to diameter of BFRP bars and concrete cubic compressive strength; (2) the bond behavior between BFRP bars and concrete was sensitive to strain rate, and models for the bond stress-slip relationship, bond strength, and the slip corresponding to the bond strength were proposed considering the strain rate; and (3) cyclic loading affected the bond behavior between BFRP bars and concrete, and models for the bond strength, slip corresponding to bond strength, and hysteretic curve area were proposed considering the number of cycles.
